Gas Main Leak Downtown Historic District

On Thursday, June 12th at approximately 10 am there was a gas main leak at the corner of 7th Street and Main Street in the historic downtown.

The Police and Fire Departments promptly responded to the scene to provide assistance. For public safety, the area was shut down, and evacuations were carried out. North West Natural arrived and successfully secured the area and addressed the gas leak.

I'm pleased to report that all evacuations were lifted within two hours, and all buildings and businesses were cleared for re-entry. Northwest Natural remained on site to complete the necessary repairs.

Cleveland Street Capitol Improvement Project

The excavation work on Kathleen Drive has now been completed, and the installation of the new infrastructure is currently in progress. Additionally, last week, crews were flagging on 6th Street as they prepare to connect the water and storm lines at Cleveland Avenue.
We anticipate that the infrastructure installation will be finished around June 30th. Following that, the street, curb, and gutter work is scheduled to be completed by July 31st.

6th Street will remain open throughout the duration of the project. Cleveland Street will remain open to local traffic only. Work is scheduled on Cleveland St between 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM Monday through Friday.

Douglas Street Effluent Line

City crews are continuing to install the 300’ of effluent line down Douglas Street. This project will extend the effluent line to Trailhead Park and then on to Bohemia Park for landscaping irrigation. Once the line has been placed the City of Cottage Grove will contract out the replacement of asphalt along North Douglas Street.
